Saffron is used as an aromatic spice and used to color the food. Due to its taste, smell and color, saffron is used extensively in various foods, especially rice and various kinds of sweets. In various food industries, saffron is used in the preparation of various types of cake powders, desserts and jellies, ice cream, beverages, sweets and candy, cakes and cookies, breads, as well as sausage, margarine, butter and cheese making industries. Saffron is used as a flavoring in ordinary tea in the eastern regions of Iran, especially in southern Khorasan.

Zereshk (barberry) is one of the most important herbs in Iran.zereshk (barberry) pharmaceutic consumption is not limited to Zereshk (barberry) without seeds; seedling species was also used about 1000 years ago. In the recent research, the plant has been analyzed for chemical composition and consumption of its products such as extract, syrup, marmalade and soft drinks are adviced. Wood, root and stem skin, leaf and fruit of barberry tree are used in pharmaceutical applications.
